I've been making my way through the ABRSM music theory exams and have got to Grade 5 and would now like to move to Grade 6.

There are a numerous books available out there and I'd like to see if there is a suggested beginners guide to harmony that would be recommended to someone that has just started to play the piano.

Note that from a playing perspective I've only just started into the ABRSM Initial Grade tunes on my own with a keyboard and I am what you would consider a beginner.

Thanks in advance!

Although intended for students taking A-level music, the clearest beginners' guide to harmony in my opinion is Hugh Benham's Harmony Workbook 1: https://www.musicroo...h?q=hugh+benham

It offers simpler explanations than Anna Butterworth's Harmony in Practice (ABRSM). The link above is to the latest (2018) revision.

I also found the Josephine Koh theory books better/easier to follow than ABRSM
