Another church musician has died: Richard Shephard. Prolific composer of the "Addington Service" and a superb set of responses as well as much else. I didn't know that he'd written Operas, musicals and orchestral and chamber music as well as church music.

He was also an excellent singer, being a lay clerk at Salisbury before being appointed head of York Minster Song School. After he retired, he was appointed Chamberlain of York Minster, where he acted as precentor for the sung services. The cathedral commissioned a wonderful stone grotesque to mark his many years at the Minster.
