I've read Ancestral Vices - what a scream that was!

I'm learning Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers from a very old book and it it made me smile to see that the unknown pianist from 80 odd years ago had exactly the same problems as I am having - right down to pencilling in some tricky fingering and a stern reminder that B# is actually C!

The summer heat has finally broken here in Central Texas!  We had a record-breaking summer, the second hottest in recorded history, with far too many days over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.  We had a sudden cool snap this past weekend, with lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s.  It felt so good!

Also, my lovely wife and I took a quick mini-vacation, staying a night in a lovely historic small town (Gonzales, TX, where the first shots of the Texas Revolution were fired).  Then we visited three state parks in one day, hiking three miles in each park.  We have some beautiful parks here in Texas.

Going shopping and for once managing to get everything that was on the list. But more than that - I took the country road route home instead of the main road and it was really beautiful - blue sky and autumn colours and textures and a Vivaldi bassoon concerto on the car radio - and my little dog beside me looking really pleased to have got away from those mischievous kittens who are rather too interested in her tail.

A parcel was despatched to me on 23rd September, due for delivery in 2-5 days.  I had tracking details, and I could see that on the evening of the 23rd September, it was picked up and on its way to the regional hub.

And there it stayed...

I emailed both the courier and the supplier for an update.  They took some time to get back to me.  The courier said they'd look in to it and let me know.  The supplier said 'the status says it's on its way'.  I replied to the supplier saying, yes, that's what it has said for what's now 11 days, what's going on?  So they said they would look in to it and let me know.

I followed up again a bit later, having no further response - we'll get someone to look in to it urgently.  I followed up on a help forum (designed for these sorts of queries), who said they would pass on my query urgently.

Three people, all looking in to it, never coming back to me.  So I emailed yet another possible help address, giving a list of all the dates of where I'd raised my queries, and could someone please let me know something, because I am currently without books, software and the slightest clue what is going on!

I received a nice email asking me to confirm my address, so a replacement parcel could be sent out on next day delivery, and also apologising for the baffling and unacceptable lack of responses to my earlier enquiries.

Today my parcel is here :)  I took thirty seconds to let the person who sent me this parcel that it had arrived safe and sound.  I said I knew it was a very busy time of year for dispatching these parcels, and even if only a tiny proportion go astray (as inevitably some will), that still leaves him with a lot of grumpy non-recipients to deal with, so I thanked him for his kindness in dealing with me so prompty :)  And he's replied, happy that I have my parcel, and thanking me for my kind words.

Off to spend the afternoon with my parcel content, happy that I have it, and happy that I was able to make someone else have a bit of a better day for two minutes :D
