I'm a big fan - they are so pleasingly dependable. The maths is beautiful.
My favourites are anything in 3rds on the piano, and r pentatonic in Kodaly.

clarinet scales : B major's nice. Chromatic scales of any length sound good to me as well....

Ab minor 3 octaves followed by Bb minoe 3 octaves. The neighbours love it!

I'm afraid I don't share your enthusiasm about scales 
They frustrate me to no end (in fact no, the fact that I have an odd number of fingers frustrates me to no end) and...I just don't get on with them
