I've just been watching the video of the rarely performed complete incidental music to A Midsummer Night's Dream by Mendelssohn - including the songs and the melodramas spoken over the music by three actors as the composer intended, as well as the more famous bits such as the overture, scherzo, intermezzo, notturno and wedding march. Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Monteverdi Choir and the LSO in the Barbican. Magical.

Eight and a half minutes on the phone to an insurance company, waiting for my very impotant call to be answered. Probably the oddest on hold music I've heard - it was the hummy bits of classical pieces, but it was literally just the hummy bit. As in, the 30 seconds you'd get backing an advert or something like that. And there were no pauses between, so there you were, the sugar plum fairy had her last note and where the next note would have been heard, in came Bach. Makes a change from the Four Seasons, I suppose!
