Faures first Nocturne (E flat minor) is my latest new piece. Anyone play it ?

What's everyone learning/playing?

Seriously irritated by one of the characters in a novel I just read who, in addition to being a Family Court Judge, also managed to commit the entire Partita II to memory and perform it to her satisfaction. Bah! Can't let that one escape my clutches now.

Beethovens, lustig and traurig (easy but fun time filler).
Returned to Lyadov'music box, which I can't make sound like a music box. In other news, I've self tuned the middle 2 octaves on my piano and it was no sweat and sounds great for now - will get me through christmas. Will get tuner in next year.

Just started the Chopin Sostenuto in Eb and the Kabalevsky Novelette - absolutely fallen in love with them
Haven't chosen the A piece yet, don't really like any of them oh

My piano playing is in a rut. Not much (if any) progress with various bits of Bach, going backwards with some Chopin, and even managing to make a complete hash of a selection of Christmas Carols.
New Year resolution is to go back to some Mozart - see if I can find any clarity in my playing.

Slowly still making my way through Bach's Prelude and Fugue in Dm from WTC Book 2 and the Beethoven Sonata in Fm 1st movement
Have added in the Fantasie Impromptu into the mix as working on the two pieces was getting a bit boring.
Using my book of Schubert music as sight reading practice at the moment. Minimal progress.

My piano teacher has decided that it would be good for me to learn Field Nocturne no. 5 from memory.

You won't regret it! I play a couple of Field's Nocturnes myself and they're such pretty miniatures.

On the G8 syllabus, I love the Bach Gigue, so much so that it's fast becoming one of my most listened to Bach pieces. I listen to Angela Hewitt's recording. I'd like to start on this soon but decided to wait until my teacher gives me the nod. I've still not done the G7 exam - next spring, last chance on the 2014 syllabus.
Yes I'm doing this - love it! Such a beautiful piece
