I don't mean a chatroom, I mean where you're on a business site and you have a query so you use Live Chat.

 

The other day I was on Live Chat and it said something "Please be aware that your text can be viewed by the operator BEFORE you submit". 

 

Does anyone know if this is the case with all Live Chat facilities?

As Badstrad has pointed out it is an optional feature and I find that most of the time this option is not turned on.

There are times when I am glad a message was not able to be seen before I sent it but equally seeing what someone is typing before they send can be useful especially when the reply is a long one.

How do you know that? Are you gauging it by the length of time to reply?

Mostly on the length of time and also because I regularly use the instant messanger feature of Skype in my day job and I know most of the people who interact with me. You get to know who gives lengthy responses but sometimes a question can't be answered in one sentence and needs a longer reply.

That is seriously not right that they don't tell you either that your chat before submission is being recorded, or that your speech is being recorded whilst you're on hold on the telephone.  My language whilst I'm holding is not for human consumption sometimes.  I'm surprised/shocked that they're allowed to do this without telling people.
 
I wonder if our forum text can be seen before we post.
