My Happy was finding that the end of the musical part of the Proms and the beginning of the Sea Shanties etc etc coincided almost exactly with Raducanu and Fernandez's arrival on court  :)  :D That was a perfectly-timed evening's viewing

We were staying in our flat in Norfolk that overlooks the Great Ouse. A very large ship had come up the river further than usual, and we were watching it from our balcony. I went back inside just in time to hear the chorus of 'Rule, Britannia!' which seemed very apt in the circs.

I had a few days in the Cotswolds last week with a group of fellow amateur astronomers (we know each other from an online forum - we'd never met before last week). Although the skies there are no better than here, it was at least clear for a few nights - unlike here.

I've just finished processing some data and here's a link to an image of the Milky Way. It's a wide-angle shot showing the Milky Way in the Perseus / Cassiopeia / Cygnus area. You can clearly see the Andromeda Galaxy, M31, at lower right.

Just spent most of the day renovating an old kitchen unit. Judging by photos it's probably circa 1940. It had ended up in the barn as a storage for tools so was in a terrible state. Anyway, after a lot of sanding (I've got a 'mouse' thankfully), it's had it's first coat of paint and is looking a bit happier. I'm going to put it in what used to be a wash-room  (laundry room?) and now acts as an entrance to the barn. While I was cleaning it out, I came across a really old screwdriver and rule. I'm wondering if they could possibly have belonged to the original owner. He was a (pretty affluent judging by the house) carpenter. I'd love to have something of his here!

TV - great picture.  We live in a so-called Dark Sky Reserve and have a reasonable telescope and have had a few decent glimpses of the night sky but, given that we are right on the west coast of Ireland, the number of nights when it is (a) cloudy/raining, or (b) blowing a gale, or © both, somewhat limits our opportunities.  In fact, I keep meaning to get a decent pair of suitable binoculars because at least then if the opportunity presents you can grab them and pop out to make the most of it.

sigh, computers can be so irritating at times - I have not copyrighted anything, despite the above

tbh it's the same problem here in Shropshire. This last year has been horrendous. Seems to have been a never ending conveyor belt of cloud coming in off the Atlantic travelling SW - NE right over the top of me. People about 40 miles or so north or south of me have had much better weather
