Have just been watching the programme to celebrate James Galway's 80th birthday which I had recorded. It was delightful and full of his pieces played in their entirety .

Indeed, a very enjoyable programabout a lovely man

Sorry to have missed it. Perhaps we should have a "Watch This" thread to alert other forumites to musical gems like this.

I didn't know how good it was going to be. Sometimes these programmes are just other people talking about the person but this was much better.

I had a feeling there was one and here it is, courtesy of fsharpminor:

Had lunch with my father-in-law yesterday.

The bit that makes this random is that my husband and I have been together 26.5 years, and this is the first time I've met father-in-law :D (the reasons aren't bad, but they are complicated, and involve too many people [some of whom may not wish to be identfied, but could be all too identifiable] to explain it all publicly!)

I'm sure that patching up my broken molar wouldn't take as long as the recorded message urging me to take out the private dental plan (and then the inevitable 'sorry- no emergency appointments available today'.) Grrr.

I beg to differ. I saw the bit where Cameron asked him why he lived in Switzerland, and he replied, "because I can't afford to live in Britain." That's not the sort of thing a lovely man would say in my book.

That could be taken in quite a few ways. I wonder what he meant by that.

One (only one) of the reasons we moved to France was that we couldn't afford to buy a house in England but we could afford to buy one in France. I hope that doesn't make us unlovely!  :(

He's certainly loaded. But was this a simple off-the-cuff comment about rip-off Britain? (Albeit ill judged and unlikely to go down well with us paupers who live here).
