Hi, I am a classically trained singer but my true passion lies in jazz, which I have experienced through playing the saxophone, so I am currently working with a jazz singer to improve my vocals with a view to doing a BMus in Jazz at a Conservatoire. However, all the jazz musicians I know that are currently studying at conservatoires are instrumentalists and say that they do not know many vocalists on their courses. Is this because it is unusual for singers to gain places on jazz courses at conservatoires or is it just coincidental? And is it a wise move for me to specialise in Jazz vocals in terms of further education and career prospects? Thank you! :)

I think it's a relatively new thing, but people are studying jazz vocals quite successfully at conservatoire. You may need to look around for a suitable course.

No idea about UK but if you're prepared to study abroad it looks like the Conservatoire in the Hague covers it although probably a good idea to keep the sax up as a second study.

If you can get to Blackpool 2nd weekend in April there is a free jazz weekend based in the Winter Gardens complex
