I cannot find the previous Book thread, probably too long since someone posted, so I am restarting it.

 

At the moment I am reading 'Siege and Symphony' by Brian Moynihan. This is about the siege of Leningrad, and Shostakovich's relationship with this event in influencing his seventh symphony. I am reading this because next term our literature group will be studying 'The Siege' by Helen Dunmore, which relates to the same event

I've just finished Fire On All Sides, by James Rhodes.

I didn't read his autobiography and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to now. Fire...Is a tour diary of sorts with random musings on certain pieces by Rachmaninoff,Bach,opera etc. It's interesting to read a life in a day of an artist I admire. I hope that he finds peace, as he is one troubled hombre.

I'm around a third of the way through The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris at the moment.  I read it in bed and unfortunately usually nod off after a couple of pages, not because it's disinteresting, but by the time I get to bed I'm always really tired.

Dune by Frank Herbert for a sci-fi book club. I'm also a member of a feminist book club. If only I could persuade both of them to do The Left Hand of Darkness that would cover both categories nicely!
