I wouldn't charge or feel happy about accepting the money in this case.

Do you send them an invoice or do they just automatically pay? I had a similar a few months ago when the brother of pupil's mum died suddenly (only in his 30s). I get paid monthly by SO and I keep a tab of how many lessons they have had, and I just said I wasn't charging them for the missed lesson and would make it up later.


Does the student wish to restart immediately?


If so I'd probably send them a message saying something along the lines of no charge for that lesson, payment for the rest of the term will be X. Especially as you have a long standing relationship with the family.
