This time I'm stuck on two clues:

It's the nearest one can get to a fight (8,4)

R_N_S_S_/S_A_

I enter three-quarters of area in Jerusalem (4)

_I_N

Afterthought:The first might be RINGSIDE SEAT. The second S comes from the first S of EMBOSSED, which was my answer to Made material incorporated (8) - oh hang on ... that should be EMBODIED.

Could the second answer be SION? Where do the three quarters come in?

I made a cryptic quiz to sell for charity at Christmas. I asked people to make a tie breaker clue in case there were several all correct entries. One of these came with no answer. My quiz was in alphabetical order and gave the number of letters for each answer, but this tie breaker has no information. The topic is meat cuts and products and the clue is" article is surrounded by an idea.".I can't solve it and e mailing the sender has had no response.

I made one for my brother, who teaches classes in solving them; it was one of those which requires a little subject knowledge, so one clue unlocks several others.

Here are some of them:

Concert for 51, 24 (5)

Going both ways round the islands, so previously 24 (8)

Split 24 (4)

(8 across) One 24 of 3, 5 and one or other in soprano section (9)

Third 24 with 8 and 15 18 pigeons (you win one, you lose one) (8)

(15 ac plus 18 down) 24 almost put a dead bird in front of the merciless duck (7, 7)

Link about East German 24 (9)

and 24 itself: Part of note you can hear (5)

Some others I was rather proud of:

"Band of Gold": first entry in pop charts (9)

Sounds like Monica will commit identity theft (8)

Welcome refreshment for aficionado (7)

Good book about foreign trade, endlessly upholding wildlife provision (9)

Performing arts supremo (4)

Credit check (4)

Tucks around browser in monkey houses, so we're told (8)

I haven't included all the clues because my brother told me off for making anagrams of synonyms, he thought that was over-complicating it...

...even though he said he did like

"24 with soft kinky bottom (5)"

which includes an anagram of a synonym which would have been censored out.

So this means that I can't give you any helpful letters - however, if anyone solves any of these, I will include any letters from that solution with any clues it affects

(This is a down clue) Folly? you'll end up in service (7) - - - N - - -

Ham acting - can't tape (8) - - - C - - - -

Wacky race on, before your very eyes! (6) - - - N - -

Stalks and restrains (5) - - - M -

The ham one is pancetta. And the last one stems. And cornea is the eye one. Good clues, Linda. And madness.

That's it. "Ancient once", which yielded the D is 'one time', not 'old time' .....

Hello again helpful peeps. I'm foxed by four clues this time:

Tuner ordered by a man out of gear (7)

_ _U_ _ _L

Write back concerning a horse-killer (8)

N_ _ _ _ _E_

A small number in each large town show persistence (8)

T_ _ _C_T_

A man to anger with an early Christmas present (12)

_ _ _N_I_C_E_ _

edit: Ooh, I've just realised the third is TENACITY! In which case the first word begins with N (N_U_ _ _L).
