for £4500? Realistically that's two people and a laptop for a week and a half. Of course the quality would be poor.

But for the AB it would have been a total cash cow. Think of the thousands of books they'd sell at each key stage. They'd be raking it in. It would (one hopes) have taken more resources than £4500 would pay for to develop a curriculum but the future earnings would make it more than worthwhile.

That link, Hildegard, is shocking. It makes it clear that ABRSM only got the contract because the two other candidates in the tender process both (sensibly!) declined to bid. Does it really say that the entire future of how music should be taught in the UK was to be settled for £4500? Realistically that's two people and a laptop for a week and a half. Of course the quality would be poor.

 

I'd like to see what the board came up with, but it looks like it was so awful that the DfE decided to keep it hidden!
