I have been stupid, and have done stupid things, all my life.

I do wish I could grow out of it.

But it appears I haven't.

My motivation to work today (well, not just today!) is below sea level. I keep telling myself it'll be worth it sticking it out for now in my current job, but meh, it's a struggle.

Can you do something surrealy naughty to liven it up a bit? Put a pineapple on display and deny all knowledge of it. Just see what happens. :)

I was furious when BBC 6 o'clock news didnt come on because of that darn tennis. Surely they could have transferred that match to BBC2 or put the news on BBC2.. WHy are people obsessed with this silly game of batting a ball backwards and forwards.

Sympathies fsharpminor. Do you find the doubles even more boring than the singles like me? Luckily I was teaching right then. Perhaps that's the answer - do more teaching so we don't notice how crazy the media's priorities are.

Exactly. There are enough sports channels these days for them not to have to interrupt regular viewing on other channels (not that the regular viewing is up to much these days - I find most of it totally abysmal).

I agree. Meanwhile I'm watching every second of every stage of the Tour de France.

Oh dear; I don't think tennis is a silly game at all. it's certainly  no sillier than any other ball game. I'm quite hooked on it - to watch, not to play. No Wimbledon for me here but Roland Garros is a much better tournament. Well I think so. Clay courts are faster than grass. Tour de France as well but I don't usually bother with the first week. what I like most about the Tour is seeing the French countryside. Many years ago they came past the end of our road and i was there cheering! Anyway I never have time to sit and watch any of these   for any length of time but I have the telelvision on when doing mindless chores and when I hear the commentary getting exciting I stop to watch for a few minutes.

@f#m - I believe you're a fan of 'that silly game of kicking a ball backwards and forwards'???

Wimbledon is two weeks out of 52 - I don't watch it much but don't begrudge those who love it and get pleasure from it.

Most people have multiple TV channels as well as streaming programmes on the internet so it's really not that difficult to avoid.

:)

No Cyrilla I am not a football fan at all !  Never have been. Might watch an England game occasionally . Since we moved north 34yrs ago have been to one live match when I took son to Tranmere Rovers!  I think twice to Crystal Palace when we lived near you.

You lot complain about 2 weeks of bat ball (a break from kick ball, need I remind you)?

I have to watch what the other half wants to watch, which means Corrie and Classic Corrie and Emmerdale and Classic Emmerdale all year round, no chance of a break.

I'm lucky I only have to endure Eastenders, Casualty, and  the house finding programmes of Kirstie and Phil.

I have found Casualty mostly tolerable, but Eastenders is pure toothache. Luckily the other half thinks so, too.

And I think she has finally gone off Casualty and Holby too.

Holby was funny - Tuesday nights when it was on I mostly found myself in Lewisham General Hospital playing the uke, and opposite is an ironmonger's called H.E.Olby. And I always assumed with a giggle that it was the inspiration for Holby City.
