Very happy today, since my wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary over the weekend! Even though I have a Grade 8 Piano exam coming up in less than a fortnight (did I use that word correctly - less than two weeks?) I wanted to block off the weekend for just the two of us. I'm very glad I did. But now I have to buckle down for the run up to the exam...

What's Made You Happy Today.... ?

Just home from a lovely, relaxing holiday in Ireland. I took my guitar and learnt some chords.

Just taken a rain sodden walk around the garden - but - we have swallows. They were flying too fast to count but at least four. They are obviously looking for somewhere to nest. Also last night I discovered we have not one but two middle sized toads. And recently I have seen wagtails, finches and a redstart as well as great tits and the usual sparrows and turtle doves. so I feel better about the fact that I can't control parts of my garden but nature has taken advantage of the wilderness.

Glad to see some other birders on here. My wife and I aren't very serious about it as a hobby (lack of time), but we do like to go out and look for interesting raptors and waders.
Recently we've been seeing a pair of Crested Caracaras on the edge of our neighborhood! They are beautiful raptors, and we're so lucky to have them since we're pretty much at the northern extent of their range.

Sometimes get Red Kites here - they're somewhat south of here but occasionally they have a day out and come this far north

I last saw them when visiting Harewood House , north of Leeds, last summer. They certainly do come north.

My chickens are the most beautiful birds in this neighbourhood though!

The Red Kites are in the Ceredigion area and Shropshire Hills.
In other news, had my first singing lesson yesterday in over 20 years...

We have just discovered some tiny froglets in our garden pond! - Exciting news as a visiting heron swiped the whole lot of mature frogs in early spring. There will be frogs again at chez Misterioso.
