Having the cockles of my heart warmed by some very warm and caring colleagues and friends. It's what I needed after yesterday and they knew it.

Really an anticipation of tomorrow when we have a family gathering here of 14, including 4 4yrs and under, and the first time I will meet my great nephew Sam (2 months old) the first baby boy in my wider family since his Dad in 1984 (there have been 4 girls). I do not know if my Dad (94) will feel like a 2 hr drive from Yorkshire though, probably not. . We normally do this Easter Monday but it was Sams due date (though he arrived a few days early), as well as eldest grandchilds 4th birthday. Will miss seeing the three Cunard liners in the Mersy though. Queen Mary has already arrived, the QE2 and Queen Victoria at about 9.30am

Ooh congratulations, it's not been so long since my horning days that I don't appreciate the significance of that!Flawless first-time lip trills twice! And there were only the two in the piece, so I make that a 100% success record

Another day walking in rural Wales. No rain. My family. A fantastic picnic with great views. Red Kites.

Some red kites occasionally pop over here for a jaunt - I've seen them a few times over the house - very distinctive. I think the nearest group of kites is about 40 miles from here.

Hearing the little girl (aged 3) who lives a few houses away playing and laughing in her garden this afternoon while I was gardening.

We have red kites. Awesome!

We used to have red kites circling over the river but the local slaughter house fell under regulations that stopped it just emptying the remains of the pigs into the river. So the kites no longer had food and disappeared for a long time. There are a few couples back now and they sometimes circle over our house.
I was made happy last week by the reappearance of the swallows who built a nest on the school wall last year. I clear up their droppings every week end so that no one realises they are there because I caught some children throwing stones at another nest a few years ago.

I love to see the swallows too, they were zooming about over the farm pond at the weekend. Also saw a family of Goldcrests and heard but not saw a buzzard and several skylarks. Not bad for within 20 miles of central London. Where are the cuckoos though ? and the buzzard has seen off the Little Owls and Barn Owls that we used to have.
