Exactly one calendar month to ATCL. Have recorded myself a few times and the main impression is "not as bad as I thought". I have a few run throughs coming up so that should shake out a lot of things.

Would you be willing to post your programme?  I'm currently working towards ARSM (probably next May) and then I'll start working on DipABRSM, so diploma programmes are very much on my mind right now.

More than happy to do so

Bach- French Suite in G
Debussy- Menuet
Debussy- Sarabande
Dello Joio- Suite for Piano

Just had a run through with my teacher. Next run through July 10 in the exam hall itself (I picked the 1901 Arts Club which is a gorgeous venue). Programme is not secure yet but should be ok with almost 4 weeks to go.

Have my LTCL programme as well if you're thinking of diplomas-

Bach- Prelude & Fugue in C# major from WTC book 1

Mozart- Sonata in A minor

Chopin- Nocturne in F Op. 15 No. 1

Chopin- Polonaise in A flat Op. 53

Menotti- Ricercare and Toccata

I started on this programme before the ATCL one actually.

Grade 3 piano exam completed,
Examiner was very pleasant and the venue was nice with very adequate parking.
I think it went ok, but not as well as I had hoped, made a couple of slips on my pieces which has not happened during practicing for a while and fluffed some of the aural section, oh well, that's over with now so time to get on with some other fun musical activities while waiting for the results.
Good luck to anyone who hasn't yet taken their exams and fingers crossed for good results for those that are waiting :)

biggrin.png  Oh my! I passed my G1 piano yay.gif piano.gif And with distinction. Can't quite believe it considering my hands were shaking so much they bounced off the keys! Full marks for aural too.

Thanks ABN. I hope your results come through soon. I'm sure you did better than you think.

Oh well. Nerves/adrenaline got the better of me and I played all my pieces at rushed tempi.  Some glaring howlers dotted throughout, but on balance better than I feared it could have turned out.  I'm sure the examiner was kind and gave me the easiest sight-reading exercise – I agree with saxStef about the practice material.

I now plan to take a year out from piano exams and aim to play many more pieces at the same level to really solidify my skills. But I particularly want to improve my sight reading and aural.

As ever, the very best of luck to all those taking exams this session!

Fingers crossed that you get what you want, LF! Sounds like there was some positives in there!

You were right, gav.  I had predicted 129 and was looking to getting a merit, but actually scraped a distinction 130 although I believe borderline marks are shifted upwards.

Just waiting for G5 theory now.

My results are in. I got a Merit on my Grade 6 saxophone.

As I wrote earlier, I felt awfully about my performance, due to issues with my reed and setup. I think I compounded the problem by feeling nervous because of this and rushing, in particular in the unaccompanied piece.

That made me lose several points, leading to a 127/150 total.

I need to use this experience as a lesson, and be prepared to handle this kind of situations in the future.

The other sections (scales, sight reading, aural) did not go too bad, considering my initial fears.

Congratulations saxStef, a good result considering the nightmare you had with your reed

That (127) is very much a good mark, saxStef. Well done!
