Yes really bad timing!.

I knew the exam would be in November but thought " There's 30 days in November what are the chances the exam will be on the first Monday or Tuesday of the month?"

Anyway I'll take past exam papers with me and revise by the pool.

Theory exam date is always known in advance.

Regarding my upcoming exam, my teacher told me the other day, "I don't care whether you pass or not."

Basically, she hasn't heard of graded exams before, and doesn't care about them. As a student, this is a wonderful morale booster. I know that if I pass, she won't judge me differently, and won't try to teach me differently, or try to go over old ground, or attempt to fill some perceived gaps from some evaluation from someone neither of us knows. She teaches to me, and not to the exam, and I'm grateful that this is so.

Thanks sboah, I never realised the dates and times were posted online in advance - that would have been useful. I have always waited for my piano teacher to give me the date, sticker and location. I don't think she knew either (she doesn't have a computer).

I'm doing a performance assessment on flute for a couple of my ATCL pieces on Dec 9th. I don't feel that prepared though to be honest!

Same, I can muddle through echoes with a few dodgy notes but I just cannot pitch my voice without hearing the note first, and I can't sustain notes to try and find the correct one, it just goes wobbly :(

Good luck with your progress, if you find a magic trick that works let me know!

Kodály courses are your friend for the development of general musicianship skills (including sight-singing). They don't provide a quick fix or a magic wand but they WILL improve anyone's musicianship.

If your teacher doesn't feel confident in teaching aural you can probably find a teacher who is.

Ideally it's a ongoing thing, not something crammed for an exam which leaves little time to fully learn and understand.

It's not clear from your previous post but it appears that you may be trying to learn from the tests on the CDs. This can help a bit when time is short but it's better if you can learn the skills before using the tests.

sbhoa is right - cramming can help in the short term but isn't helpful if trying to learn thoroughly and securely.

Put Kodály courses/learning solfa with a teacher on a back burner, I would suggest - do this exam (this term?   Sorry, haven't read back through the whole thread) then consider it.

PM me if I can be of any help at any time.

:)
