Salut!

I'm learning (re-learning) French from many years ago. Anyone up for some basic French?

This reminds me of when my parents were travelling through France on a train, with a school party in the next carriage. A couple of 10 year old French boys kept coming through and asking "errr... would you like... err... would you like... a piece of cake?" and then giggling and running back to their carriage. After 3 or 4 visits from our patisserie pushing brethren, my dad went into their carriage where they were sitting with their school teachers and asked "ou est le gateau?" The carriage exploded with mirth!

Today I asked a French coworker to correct my pronunciation Bruyères (a Debussy prelude I'm working on for ARSM).  I've been butchering the pronunciation for months now, and I still can't quite manage the guttural sound he made for the y...

I can generally read French pretty well, but I generally don't dare to pronounce or try to speak it.  Spanish (at least the Spanish spoken here in Texas) is much easier.  Thankfully I could manage a creditable "Bonjour.  Parlez vouz Anglais?" when my wife and I were in Paris last year.  (We loved Paris, and to our surprise the people were quite friendly.  A smile and a polite greeting go a long way...)
