My adult student (who can already play the violin) played a load of bass notes while I played various tunes on the recorder. Like "The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round" and similar jolly little numbers. smile.png

This was actually yesterday .... a lovely 3 minute handover between lessons: two boys, one grade 7 and the other who’s just done grade 2 and waiting for results.

The grade 2 boy and I were having a look at an old Piano Time pieces book, and we’d prep’d Gypsy Tango, which he liked. I thought I would play ‘Valse Triste’ for him, as a little taster for a future lesson, when the grade 7 boy rang the bell for his lesson, and I had the idea of asking him to play the piece instead. He’s done some Chopin, and I thought he would slip into the idiom of the Valse - and he did, playing it really nicely with some pedal.

Younger boy seemed suitably impressed - and liked the piece. Just a really nice interlude between two students who rarely meet, as the younger one normally comes on a different day. Made me smile for the rest of the day.

Conversation with teenage piano pupil.

Pupil: I've just come back from Newquay - it was really fun.

Me: Were there lots of hunky Swedish surfers on the beach?

Pupil. No.

Me: Oh that's a shame.

Pupil: Yeah but there was the whole of the England rugby team!

England's incredible nail-biting victory over New Zealand in the cricket world cup. A absolutely thrilling classic final!

My neighbour is having a garage built and has put a bright red portaloo in his front garden. Overnight, someone has put a notice on the portaloo's door "I'd give it a minute if I were you!"

I was on holiday (road trip with family) in south holland, belgium and france last week.

We stuck to the north of france (dunkirk and bray dunes on friday before we came back to the uk via coquelles (eurotunnel)

did ypres on wednesday (and took in the menin gate and the 8:00 last post service)

Loved it  so much that i want to to go back to the mainland (had to come back as I had two concerts i was playing in this weekend). Wouldn't want to live in europe though

Sorry to disappoint you, but at least until November, you DO live in Europe.
