People here might be interested to know about this course:

https://www.futurele..._source=youtube

I got an email from ABRSM letting me know about it. It's free, non-accredited, lasts 5 weeks (apparently 3 hours per week, though in my experience these things always take longer). Starts 10th June. Organised by ABRSM and Future Learn. Might be good, who knows. I just signed up and if it is good I might even pay the extra £52 for a piece of paper to say I've done it.

Anyone else fancy doing it?

Some of the other free online courses sounded more fun smile.png

''Music Psychology: Why does Bohemian Rhapsody feel so good?'

'Introduction to Psychology: the Psychology of Personality' or

Or  even 'Antiques Trafficking and Art Crime' happy.png. I might be interested in doing one of those.

I would consider doing this - especially since CPD is hard to come by in this neck of the woods. My opinion of ABRSM has deteriorated over the last few years, but the course is free, just a few hours a week, and I might even learn something from it.

Thanks for posting this, ten left thumbs.

Thanks very much. I hadn't heard of that before and am planning to sign up. I already think I am a good music teacher biggrin.png  but there is always room for betterment.

Throughout my teaching career, sometimes I have thought I'm a good teacher but I've also worried that I'm not at times. I haven't had huge amounts of students with distinctions but I often meet ex students who are still playing and I have a low dropout rate. But what does make a good teacher?

OK, I've signed up - but nearly fell asleep listening to the introductory webinar about music & performance.

I don't have three hours spare a week at the moment but will wait to see how the rest of you rate it for the future!

I've signed up, not sure how it will go because I'm not really very good at listening to things on the computer. Like Misterioso I tend to fall asleep and also have lots of other things to do which I (rightly or wrongly) put into a higher priority.

Glad to hear others are potentially interested. I echo the opinions above, that is I'm somewhat suspicious of 'online' as a place to do real development, and also somewhat suspicious of ABRSM. However for the time it is asking it looks worth a shot. If I get into it and it all feels very superficial and obvious, then I haven't lost much, other than time.

Thanks, I’ve signed up. I’m always looking for ways to become a better teacher. I’m also going to one of the ABRSM/EPTA teacher development days at Chethams on Sunday, looking forward to it!

I'm very interested but just don't have the time at the moment at with teaching, and I'm returning to academic study as well shortly plus working my way through The Curious Piano Teachers material each month.. I'm a big fan of Future Learn courses- I've done several and all bar a couple have been great-and as they're free I haven't lost anything but a bit of time. With regard to online learning, what suits is down to the individual I think- I find the online and distance learning methods suits me very well so long as it's well though- out and delivered in an engaging way. I may sign up just to follow it and see what it's like for the future.
