I've just received an email from someone who came across my website and realised that I was his piano teacher when he was at school - 50 years ago!! It was at the very start of my teaching career and I was still at music college at the time. I remember that the principal of the college had been asked to send an advanced student to do some piano teaching in the school and my piano teacher suggested me. How amazing to get a message from so many years ago!
A message from the past!

How nice! You must have been really pleased. We never know what seeds we sow!

This is lovely to hear! So many pupils leave and sink without trace. They all leave a mark of some kind on our lives and we on theirs. You must have made an impression. Well done!

I just got a follow up email from him - he's now an airline pilot living in the channel islands. He closed the message by saying 'Thank you for setting me off on a hobby that I am still enjoying 47 years later!'

I occasionally bump into previous pupils (don't always recognise them though) and it's great to get feedback especially when I realise they were getting a lot more out of lessons than I thought they were when they were sulky teenagers. However others probably cross the street when they see me coming

My piano teacher who got me through all my exams until grade 6 theory and grade 5 piano came to my wedding 18 years after she last taught me. If I didn't leave the country I think I would have gone up to grade 8. Love my Auntie Rosie. I started with her at 6 and so she was always Auntie Rosie. Had a teacher for my grade 6 piano but we never really got on so I gave up after my exam.
