Hey Guys,

 

I'm an Alto Saxophone player originally brought up around jazz. I am now going on to do a classical diploma, and am looking to change my reed, as I find them too harsh when playing this sort of music.

 

I currently use Vandoren's ZZ reeds, and have little experience with other reeds. Do any of you have any suggestions for the sort of thing I could look at? I know it is a very subjective question, but a loose guide would be greatly appreciated....

My son is studying classical saxophone at music college and uses blue box Vandorens (3.5). Of course it's very much personal preference, as you say. The standard mouth piece for classical saxophone is often a Selmer C* - but again that changes with personal preference.

Vandoren blue box and a Selmer C* would be perfect.
