2. To attend one music-related day course/ event per month outwith my normal groups/ rehearsals.
3. To investigate further study options.
4. To properly practise piccolo and alto flute as well as 'normal' flute!
5. To say yes to and volunteer for opportunities that come my way even if I think they're outside my comfort zone as doing this has brought me some lovely experiences this year!

1. Practice scales regularly- straight scales, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, (6ths?), chromatics (normal and 3rds), arpeggios and dominant 7ths (both straight and broken) and any others I can think of . I had my last assessment on scales for my degree a few weeks ago, but I know I need to keep practising them!
2. Learn two new pieces a month (at least)
3. Regularly practice my Cor Anglais
4. Say yes to as many gigs as I can do, the ones I've done recently have been great
5. Decide what I'm going to do after my degree!
6. Regular practice on my technique
7. Keep a chamber group going- or at least try!
Good luck everyone

By this time next year, I'd like to be able to:
Sight read music at the level I can currently play
Have a firm grasp on harmony and use this to be able to easily harmonise melodies and thus accompany something or cover a (pop) song.
Be able to play without glancing at the keys.

1. Pass Grade 6 oboe with Merit (always the optimist)
2. Practice cor anglais at least one a week (thanks OboePiano for the reminder!)
3. Attend singing week in major English Cathedral in the summer (this has an audition to get in, so is HARD!)
4. Learn enough tolerance to avoid killing the Bass in our choir who can't read music and has no apparent desire to do so.
I think these are all SMART, from what I remember of the terminology!

At the moment I can barely think beyond resolutions for the Christmas holidays!
1. Get through my recital-exam in February with at least some dignity
2. Find ways actually to like doing long tones
3. Improve my agility significantly (a LOT more discipline with scales and technical studies)
4. Breathe better
5. Discover creative ways to stop health issues being such a hindrance
6. Yes, more cor for me too...
7. End the year with G8 more realistically in my sights
8. Have more fun (relaaaaax)...
And without sacrificing quality oboe-time:
- Get back to the piano (a bit at least)
- Find more time to play recorders in properly

My musical resolutions are:
1. Make list of all the pieces I can play to a performance standard.
2. Make a list of pieces I want to learn in the near future.
3. Polish up any pieces which are nearly at a performance standard.
4. Make a firm decision as to whether to go for my ATCL.
5. Do more regular practice (1 hour a day) instead of 3 hours one day and then nothing for a day or so.

Right! Here goes, the comprehensive list...
1. To pass the first 60 credits of my music degree.
2. To do at least 40 minutes of piano practise per day.
3. To gain 5 more pupils.
4. To be able to play all grade 8 scales and arpeggios on the piano fluently.

To earn enough money to carry on funding the music habit, including some lessons, with a view to sitting my LTCL eventually.
I like that
You weren't supposed to actually read it...
it so happens, your posts are worth reading
here's the deal then - you do the thing in tiny print on your post, and I'll learn at least the first eight bars of the Stockhausen

Nah. I never make New Year resolutions, music related or otherwise, I know full well I'd never keep any of them if I did.
The nearest I ever got was when a relative asked me when I was a kid what my resolution would be for the coming year, and when he asked me a year later if I'd kept I couldn't remember what it was.

Well, my new year resolution for 2012 was to play the piano competently having never played before that. I didn't make one last year. This year however, I will aim for the following:
1. Practise sight reading every session either from the sight reading books or at least 8 bars from longer pieces from a collection book.
2. Practise sight singing 2 bars from one of my choir books to improve my sight singing skills.
3. Get into the habit of guessing which era pieces a from and what metre they are in when I listen to <<whispers>> Classic FM.
4. Sit and pass my first piano exam (grade 5) this spring.

And as for that thing in tiny print, well, if funding becomes available...
