biggrin.gif Hello everyone. I'm just wondering if anybody has any recommendations for advanced classical guitar studies? I'm picking up all my old classical repertoire again and looking for new stuff. I'm currently working through Carcassi's classical etudes piece by piece, and I also have a book full of crazy Bach arrangements which range from fairly simple (intermediate) to rather tricky! I'm looking for something fairly challenging, I know Villa-Lobos is always a safe bet but...

Does anyone know of any particularly tasty pieces or books which are full of studies? Preferably getting progressively more challenging...?

I'd love to hear from you all!

I'm currently working on the 'early' stage advanced material and i really enjoy Carcassi's '25 Etudes Melodique Progressives opus 60'. I can play almost all of them though not as competantly as i would like! If you are looking for a challenge i think the suggestions you've already made are good ones, namely Villa Lobos 'Solo Guitar' the Etudes and Preludes look very challenging or Bach's 'Complete Lute Works'. I also have these collections but have no intention to study them until i feel competant with the 25 Etudes by Carcassi. Largely advanced material at grade 6 and above i think.

I could teach a novice to play the complete Nirvana back catalogue in an afternoon.
And that includes the solo's.

Good grief, what has that person done to this message width?

biggrin.gif  Hello everyone. I'm just wondering if anybody has any recommendations for advanced classical guitar studies?

Glad to see the wide post as gone!

"The guitarists progress book 4 (David burden)"
has some interesting stuff in. One, current grade 6 piece in there, along with a current grade 7 piece, And some recital stuff to keep you busy.
Tarrega's collected guitar works (volume 2 or 3, or both) could keep you occupied for a while.
If you want to buy exam or study pieces online and have them posted to you I can recommend Staffordguitar.com.

A must for classical guitar student bookshelf:
(1) 20 Studies by Fernando Sor (Segovia ed.)
(2) 12 Etudes by Villa-Lobos
