don't put violin strings on the viola.
viola strings are thicker and tougher - the instrument is longer and therefore the strings are under more tension. if you put a thinner violin A string onto the viola it will definitely snap.
you CAN put viola strings on a violin, but this isn't recommended unless you're very small and need a violin strung as a viola. the strings will be floppier and "buzz" more as they hit the fingerboard.
any good music shop should sell viola strings, but PLEASE don't put a violin string on a viola! *sob sob*

Thats true that violin strings would snap on a viola, as the instrument can sometimes be one or two inches bigger.

sorry, Nat - you're not missing much
One of the characters on the Vicar of Dibley is an old bloke who says no-no-no-no-no a lot. It's not one of those "I guess you had to be there" moments since it's not all that funny first hand.
The quote just sprang to mind as a kind of parody as you seemed a bit beleagured by the volume of advice saying "no no no no"
