I just got a bow rehair from a Luthier and violin dealer called Chris Tayler (01244) 571990 who works from his home workshop in Rossett just outside of Chester. He was very good and reasonably priced, and was recommended by a member of the Liverpool Phil who said he had given her the best violin set up she had had. Without that chance conversation, I don't think I would have ever found out he existed. Having read a post about a collapsed soundpost on another thread, I just wondered if anyone else wants to recommend a luthier close to where they live, or perhaps a web link for finding luthiers?

Near where I live, I have a luthier and violin/viola/cello dealer called Peter Voight, can't find his phone number right now. I bought my viola from him, he is pricy but he's brilliant, he does an amazing set up, and he won't cheat you out of your money, I tried a viola that was £3000, but it was too big for me, so he wouldn't sell it to me, only when I found one that was the right size and was completely happy with it did he sell it to me.

You live in Sussex, Isabel?

I believe I've had dealings with said gentleman.

I think Peter Voight is in Lindfield near Haywards Heath. He is dear from what I remember but he makes good shoulder rest.

I think it was my son collapsed soundpost that you are talking about which was fixed less than 48 hours later by Ray Humpheries of East Grindstead. He was brillant and quick. But wait for it .... it collapsed because some idiot had stuck a violin soundpost in it so it was lucky there wasn't more damage.
