If you look at Elida trading's website they say take it to a proper technicican asap. Not that I know anything about violins!

Take it to a luthier (violin maker) immediately. The soundpost is very important.

I got it resetted....but it's on the right side of the bridge now.....

If you got it back up yourself, I take my hat off to you!

i think its on the wrong side of the bridge though...its under the left hand-side of the bridge O.o;

Yes that's the wrong side. Did you put it up yourself?

Now, where to go from here is the question. Did this violin come from a general music shop, an internet shop (specialist or non-specialist?), ebay? A private seller? where?

Your cheapest option, to be honest, if it came from a reputable retailer, is to take / send the violin back. After all this time you probably won't get a refund but you can certainly ask the shop to put the soundpost up for you if it came from a shop, or ask the seller (if that seller is a regular dealer) to send you a replacement, and ask that it is sent BRIDGE UP. We would certainly do that if it came from us, but I guess you are beyond the time limit UK law gives you to return an unseen item, which is seven days (assuming you are in the UK). It's worth asking, but be polite.

If that isn't an option then you are going to have to find someone to put the soundpost up for you. If it is an older violin from a private ebay seller there may be other things wrong with it, so be prepared!

I got it off ebay ~_~

maybe i should just sell it back out and get a gliga instead ~_~

Yue,

Tell us more about the one you bought. Perhaps the easiest way is, tell us the ebay number. Or your ebay ID. It's easier to make intelligent comments when one has all the facts smile.gif

update:

So, I took it back to the music store to ask them to reset it again. This time the strings were in place, and they didnt even loosen it or take off the bridge, and they were trying to jam it in. Scratched up a bit one of the f-holes in the process and still didn't get it in.

Clearly they haven't a clue. Is it not possible to get a full refund on the grounds that the intrument is not fit for the purpose for which they sold it?

Your only chance is a SPECIALIST shop, if the violin is in fact worth spending the money on at all. the trouble is a specialist shop is likely to find all sorts of work that needs doing and probably you will end up paying more to have the violin set up than you paid for it. That sounds silly but you see repairers have queues a mile long and the shop's own customers take priority. Chances are a specialist shop will try very hard to sell you something else.

Could you tell us more, go offlist if you like. Tell me at least what brand it is / how much it cost.

i got a knilling prague for 500 bucks ~_~
elidatrading
Well then that is certainly worth getting set up. I think you need to take it to a specialist shop though, unless you can get your money refunded from the place it came from.

Sorry, all this time I thought you were in the UK!

Well, I took it to a luthier today (his little shop was amazing) and i'll get the soundpost up by tomorrow 75 us dollars *sighs* owells.
