I am going on a Piano workshop early January and I need to have a piece that I have worked on so that the teacher can offer advice and tips on how to make it better.

I am grade 4 standard, I am to take my Grade 4 in March and I would like a piece that is challenging but not too hard that I can't tackle it on my own. My sight reading is very good.

Can anyone recommend a really nice piece for my repertoirre that I can work on myself rather than with my teacher and then take it with me to the workshop.

The course is January 3rd so not that many weeks for me to work on it and I will need to get the music.

Many thanks in advance.

What styles of music do you enjoy? would you like something classical? romantic? jazzy? modern?

I prefer classical or romantic and something that isn't too fast. I recently went on a piano course and the rest of the group all had lovely repertoirre to play and I played my Grade 4 exam pieces and felt a bit left out. There will be 3 others from the course at the workshop and I would like something to impress.

Have you thought of a Scarlatti Sonata? With 555+ to go at there must be something suitable. If I can suggest one from the dozens that are neither beginner's pieces, nor for virtuosos only, Sonata in Bb major K266 (L48) is very beautiful and while it has some challenges it is not enormously difficult - especially if you take it at a sensible Moderato, rather than the absurd Allegro that some editors suggest.

(I can eMail you an out-of-copyright score. PM me if you are interested)
