Completely unknown ? not quite, i have seen a CD in HMV only last week which featured this repertoire. I recall looking twice, because it was something i was anaware of. But i don't think it was a premier recording. It may be that it is not rated very highly which has lead to its' relative obscurity, I'm not sure. In his recent biography Alfred Brendel felt that Liszt can be forgiven for many of his lesser works, because of the sheer quality of his masterpieces, of which there are many. So prolific was Liszt as a composer, transcriber and arranger that in my view some of his music is quite forgettable, even when very elaborate, and sometimes more-so because of that .... yet some of his works are amongst my dearest favourites. I would be interested to hear some of this. I'll give those links a listen at the next opportunity, right now i'm in an intenet cafe with no headphones !
