Beth has to learn this but when I google it there seem to be two versions. We need the one for Grade 5 Flute.
Sorry to ask such a mundane question.
Thanks

Just looking at the syllabus and it looks like its the diminished seventh arpeggio starting on E that you need.
the notes will be E G Bb Db

Thank you so much.

A diminished 7th is not really a scale; more of a broken chord, in this case. You'll presumably also need to find out the range which is expected (how many octaves) but her teacher should be able to tell her all this information.

Thanks for this. I can find out the range from the syllabus. I thought it was a scale which is why I wasn't making progress.

Jazzers talk about diminished scales - I think they may be on some of the higher grades of the TG jazz syllabus. They have a repeating pattern either Whole Tone - Half Tone, or Half Tone - Whole Tone so they're 2 diminished arpeggios interlocked. Apparently classical musicians call them octatonic scales, but I don't believe they're required in any of the classical exams.
