A friend is about to part company with her singing teacher and not before time I think. What advice would you offer to her in her hunt for a new teacher?

I guess it would partly depend on her reasons for changing, the level she was at, and what sort of thing/type of teacher she wanted. My advice is always to go and meet prospective teachers and chat to them about what you want to do. Telephone and e-mail 'conversations' are OK, but I don't think they are substitutes for face-to-face conversations. I think students should be honest with prospective teachers about what they want out lessons/expect from the teacher; especially if they are perhaps dissatisfied with a previous teacher.

Do you know her voice well Petrat? If so, maybe you can give her a list of things to ask potential teachers to find out if they're going to be good for her voice.

I know her voice quite well and I know what it could do if it had the right sort of help and if she was taught some technique instead of just songs. It can be difficult advising friends. That is why I wanted a few second opinions. biggrin.gif
