Does anyone know of some good songs that would suit a girl of 13 that were written before 1950?

Somewhere over the rainbow?

I suppose that would count though I think the earliest version of 'The Wizard of Oz' was early 50's (But I havent checked)
I am told it was the first film I was ever taken to see , must have been about 1952-3.

The Wizard of Oz was 1930s I think.
But what about the songs from Bambi (1949): (Drip, drip, drop, little)..April Showers, and Love is a song that never ends.
We'll Gather Lilacs, from Perchance to Dream by Ivor Novello.
Oklahoma, Carousel and South Pacific are all pre 1950: 'Dites moi' from South Pacific would be a nice song for a 13 year old.
Showboat has some super songs.
Good luck.

You're right 'Wizard' was in fact 1939.

And I hadn't realised the earlier 'Rogers and Hammersteins' were pre 1950

Blue Angel (1930 Film). A work of genius.

Songs by Friedrich Hollaender, Robert Liebmann and Sam Winston (sung by Marlene Dietrich playing Lola)

A dozen or so of them, including "You do something to me" and "Lili Marlene"
