Haven't got anyone yet - but I expect there will be one or two.

No-one on the pieces yet, even.

What piece(s) have you started?
hello_cello
Oooh i am, in the spring, were going to start looking at the pieces in a few weeks - i know ill definately be doing the Elephant, i love that peice!!
The Old Lady
I've given my teacher a reprieve from the Elephant, as she teaches many children who like that one. tongue.gif

I'm thinking List A; Now is the month of maying. T. Morley.
List B;Petit Berger. Absil.
List C;Top Cat. Hanna, Barbera and Curtin. OR possibly Quajira. Hold.

While I'm here, the Morley is in D major, but written in the late 16th century, would it have been in a "mode", and if so which one??

The vocal version I'm familiar with has always been in G major - I don't know if there is an 'earlier' version.

I'm a beginner on piano but my teacher told me to try out some pieces from my brothers books. i'll look at 3 because thats where hes upto but it depends on my co-ordination. My readings fine though on both hands as i play trombone and have to read bass, treble... and tenor clef!

I'm not playing grade 3, but my brother is, so i've stolen his book and played through it.

I like l'elephant and top cat the best.

I transposed the left hand of l'elephant for french horn, and it's sounding pretty mighty. :-)

The study in F would be quite a nice one to do as well, it's quite enjoyable.

that rings bells, fabnt - one of my young pupils brought along a book of her brother's to show me one day last term. I offered to play something from it since she was interested.

However on opening it, I found it was a book of pieces for french horn with piano accompaniment.
I ended up transposing the horn part and sight reading the piano accompaniment at the same time. ph34r.gif

it was interesting ...

sorry - offTopic.gif but your post made me biggrin.gif remembering this incident.

My son's taking Grade 3 in Spring and is playing "Now is the month of Maying", "Petit Berger" and "Quajira" OR possibly Top Cat laugh.gif

I've got the first 4 bars of Top Cat together with 2 hands. Barry came in and said, "Is that Top Cat?". Pleased as punch. tongue.gif

I've started a new pupil on 1 08 piece (Scarlatti) and 1 09 piece (Tell You) aiming for Spring and a decision as to which set of pieces to go with. She came to me having G2 merit well over a year ago. We are behind schedule and will be having a re-think.
Does anyone think the Scarlatti is harder than usual ? the hands leap around, the marked phrasing is quite hard to do and the interpretation is not as obvious as with some 'baroque' pieces.
With 'tell you' we are struggling to follow the fingering - eg. ending a LH phrase on 1 and moving up to start the next on 5. Could this be a technical issue with most previous repertoire having been in 5 finger positions or at least within tunes of <1 octave.
What have been your experiences ? Any thoughts ?
