Hello there

If anyone uses Sunday by Sunday, in the weekly lists of suitable music to play before, during and after the service, and during Communion, there is often reference made to a publication called Ten Hymn Tune Preludes. It is apparently published by Peters and comes in about 3 volumes. I can't seem to find it/them on any website, Amazon or music shops (ok, I've only tried Banks in York! our local ones almost certainly wouldn't stock it/them.)

Does anyone here use it, and can you tell me if it is out of print and/or where it came from?

Well I have quite a few albums of that type, but not that one.
I often use '100 Hymn Preludes for Manuals' and put a pedal line in some of them. It published by Kevin Mayhew.

Try Allegro Music who specialise in organ music. The link should take you to the Ten Preludes page, but they are worth giving a phone to as they knowledge of organ music is pretty encyclopeadic!!

Good luck!

Many thanks, FSM and Guilmant.

I think I shall have to start telephoning because it may be that the arrangements in the Peters editions have been included in some other book listed by Allegro Music. The reason I was drawn to the Peters is the magic formula E/M, which means I have a fighting chance of being able to play the piece with only an hour or so's work - vital if you need to vary your repertoire and don't have long to spend on it!

Mayhews seem to have cornered the market in this kind of thing but I thought I would endeavour to track down the listed book(s) first. If an author/composer's name were cited it would make the job easier.
