Those who know me will know that I was originally hoping for a distinction but knew that I had made a hash of too many things for that to be a realistic hope. I still thought a merit was still possible but I must have played even worse than I thought - I missed the merit by 2 marks with 118.
Still, once I got over the disappointment (it took a couple of hours) the pride remains: All my life in my more idle fancies I have dreamed of being a post grade 8 pianist and now I am one. Furthermore it is the highest mark I've ever had for a practical music exam and was achieved in a little over 18 months from restarting at the level of grade 5 plus 34 years of rust, whilst doing a lot of other things at the same time. 118 is not distinction or a merit but it's not a bare pass either; On reflection, I'm happy with that.
