hi there,
i just wondered if anyone could suggest a type of E string for a 3/4 sized violin. Would a full-size string fit?
The violin currently has Dominants on it, but my daughter seems to shred the coating off the E string very quickly, and then gets metal in her left hand fingertips.
I've looked at a few string websites, but the "good" E strings ( that have been mentioned in previous threads) always seem to be full size.
Any ideas?

Try a 'Hill Special E'. Medium gauge usually works best. Good strings with a nice smooth sound and low tendancy to squeak. The price won't leave you gasping for breath either, so perfectly possible to purchase a couple of spares.
E strings should be changed quite frequently as they do dull in tone after about three months of use.
EDIT: on a 3/4 size violin you will have to wind up the extra bit of string, but to avoid too much on the peg, push the string a bit further through the hole in the peg before starting to wind.
