Full Version: Trio?

I've just accompanied a concert with 3 soprano friends. Repertoire was opera classic and musical theatre. The girls sang a couple of duets - Lakme and Sul'aria, which went down like a house on fire. However, the concert was a last minute thing, and we hadn't found a trio which was a shame.

Does anyone know of a trio within the light opera/operetta/musical theatre arena that could be sung, or arranged for three sopranos? One of them is definitely colluratura (or however you spell it), so range isn't an issue.

Cheers, Bing

The obvious one is "three little maids" (G&S, Mikado). OK, one of the voices is a mezzo but it doesn't ever go very low.
I'll put my thinking cap on for more!

Edit: There is a very famous trio at the end of Richard Strauss' "Rosenkavalier", which is gorgeous. May be a bit too classical for what you are searching for though (it's also extremely challenging...)

Perhaps the opening trio of ladies from Magic Flute would work, especially if the accompanist was a good looking male and they could sing about him.
