Im really REALLY annoyed, having just found out that my dad has asked my piano teacher if i can start doing theory with them, however i really did not want this to happen, as i know it will slow me down, im already grade 4ish, and he wants me to start with the theory is fun books at grade two. Not only do i hate those books but i know all the stuff for grade two, as i was going to enter myself fo grade two this term. I had planned to keep teaching myself theory untill grade 6ish, and enter myself for a grade each term, until i get to grade five (am studying GIV and GV now)

And i doubt there is no way of getting out of it now....

ARGH
Sorry i just needed this rant.

Can you prove to your piano teacher that you know everything that's required for grade 2 h_c? smile.gif

In which case I'm sure your piano teacher will pitch things at the level you require, even if it means doing a few diagnostic tests first. smile.gif

Can you tell Dad that it's not the best use of your lesson time and that you'd rather study theory at home? Unless he wants to pay for longer lessons? biggrin.gif
If not try to reason with your teacher - tell them your plan and ask if you can just come to them when you have problems. Although they may advise a different approach such as starting at G4 next term

Your father is probably trying to do the best for you and thinks he is being helpful. He may not know that your theoretical knowledge is already way past Grade 2.

You may as well, it starts to get really interesting around Grade 6. It won't be the waste of your time that you envisage and if you are smart enough you should be able to cruise it until Grade 5 anyway. If you take it at your own pace it won't eat into your time significantly.
