Which do people prefer. Of late I've been drawn to my theory books ahead of my instruments and was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same phenomena?

I intended this post to come up as a poll but it doesn't seem to have worked! Assistance required smile.gif

Wouldn't like to choose between them - I like all of it!

At the moment theory, I could study for hours!!
I love performing with an orchestra though - really miss that sad.gif

I too have been doing a lot of theory recently, I'm really enjoying understanding and working things out and the like...although whether I'd say I prefer this to performing...I don't know...it's a tough one!! blink.gif

I prefer to do theory, partly because I dont like people hearing me play tongue.gif

I also listen to music almost constantly whatever I am doing smile.gif

I do enjoy to play, but I find the theory quite interesting!!! Despite what others think.

I like playing best (but not performing unsure.gif).

I like performing and Theory but I dont listen to much.

Impossible to choose but an excellent question nonetheless ... my first answer would have been theory, butt I perform a lot more now that my standard of playing on both violin and piano has started to improve beyond exam pieces, so I really enjoy playing now, both solo and ensemble (orchestral groups especially). Yet I spend far more time listening to music than I do studying theory or performing ???? Help wacko.gif

Probably performing, but very closely followed by listening, especially in a live ocncert situation.

Yes, that's my preferred musical activity too - but the opportunity rarely presents itself these days (no orchestra).

But if it's Hindemith, I would rather do anything else!!

I'm not a big fan of performing if its for an exam or something where it actully counts! I usually get so nervous and it just ends up rubbish. However I do like playing my instruments just for the enjoyment of it!

But I have to say that I do prefer theory over it! Learning/understand the harmony/tonal structure of a piece really does interest me! Probably sounds a bit bizare, but hey ho!

I have to say that I love theory, although I also love playing my piano, performing? well I am just trying to get used to performing in front of others.

Theory is brilliant though and so addictive!
