Hi all!!

I would really really really appreciate it if someone could shed some light and help me out smile.gif

I'll be auditioning for a orchestra who's requirements are AMEB 7+..

The problem is, i have absolutely no idea what piece i should play! dry.gif

I am only required to do one unaccompanied piece/excerpt of a piece which is about 5 minutes long. Following that, the usual orchestral excerpts which will be sent by them.

Could anyone please recommend some lovely pieces which is about Grade 8 standard for viola? Something which sounds nice unaccompanied and shows off nice technicality.

So looking forward to hearing from you! THANKS!!

Cheers,
Sandra

Glazunov Elegie for Viola. It's on the Grade 8 syllabus and is utterly beautiful. It goes quite high in part, but I think it would sound OK without the piano accompaniment.

Bach cello suites arranged for viola (Simon Rowland Jones has made a good edition published by Peters)

Telemann Fantasias (originally for violin, can't remember the good edition - not the one I've got!)

Movements from these are often on the grade 7 & 8 syllabus - and they're designed to be unaccompanied, so ideal that way.

Aww thank you guys!!

I was looking through the 7 and 8 syllabus but i wasnt sure what would sound good unaccompanied. I'm not very much a Bach person but i'd definitely try it out for non-audition purposes. Im not very good with Bach hehe.

Perhaps i'd try Glazunov and another one will by Brahms Hungarian Dance no 1 in d minor, but i cant seem to find the score anywhere.

Once again, thanks!
