Full Version: Alternatives To Sibelius?

I have recently started composing pieces for a mixture of instruments and am finding writing each part and a score by hand incredibly labour intensive. My friends have purchased Sibelius but I really cannot afford it so does anyone know of similar software that is either cheaper or free?

Music Publisher does the job for less.
Easy to learn and excellent customer service.
Used by people preparing scores at a professional level.

....or Print Music (a slightly slimmed-down version of Finale). About £70, and will produce scores right up to orchestral level, and do all the normal stuff like transposition, extracting parts, etc.

It's cheaper than the student version of Sibelius, and is far less restricted in what it will do.

I had some problems with my PrintMusic programme (but could just have been my technical incompetence) but was interested to hear about Music Publisher and will look into this. Thanks, sbhoa.

Well my PrintMusic is from 2002, and I haven't updated it - seems to work fine ... it's not impossible that newer versions have glitches, I guess, though I'd be surprised.
