Hi all,

I'm planning to buy myself a new violin, a good one...can anyone give me any idea on which brand to invest in? Any experience from any one? Or what would you recommend? And how much is the price roughly (in Singapore dollars)?

Thanks smile.gif

That's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string:

What is your budget?

read the thread on Gliga violins. I imagine violinslover ship to singapore.

Sorry, i forgot to state my budget, Singapore $1000 or less I would say. I'd read the Gliga violin thread, would like to own one Gliga violin, but is there any alternatives? I've no idea of other brands.

I don't think a Gliga is going to be beatable in that price range. The alternatives I know of are Poller or Zeller (Romanian) Strunal (from the Czech republic). some bottom of the range German instruments, and a large number of Chinese brands. Of the Chinese brands I know, the Kohr K500 will fall within that price range, probably, and is popular with many US players. In UK terms there are Stentors and Westburys, and various own brands which will often give a better deal.

why not find a few local dealers and see what they have to offer - it might give you something to compare against.

I wouldn't look for any brand, just for a violin that you like - it's not very easy to brand violins like you might say pianos or guitars
