Why are piano stools all so old-fashioned looking? The styles, the wood .... the fabric ill.gif (I've got an aversion to Dralon!)

Does anybody know a web site which sells contemporary looking piano stools? I've looked at several sites but they all seem to be selling much the same thing....

I know what you mean about dralon ! I have an adjustable stool which I bought at our local department store, not for its looks, but because it does adjust.

It's basic and functional, but may be preferable to something old-fashioned-looking. I'll have a look on the site and see if I can post a link.

the RPS10 could be what I have - similar price.

I had a nasty case of piano stools once.

But a good hefty dose of Senokot soon sorted me out.

I just have an ordinary wooden stool that has a screw thread so you can adjust the height - our piano is crammed in next to the dining room table in our tiny extension, so anything else wouldn't fit!

Thank you for the links maggiemay - I've had a look at them but because I haven't got a separate music room, I was hoping to get something that wouldn't look out of place with the rest of my furniture sad.gif I might do what ChrisH has done initially and keep a look out for something more suitable... Thanks for trying anyway...

Sometimes you can get away with using a dining chair if it's the right height.
A seat that is wider than a normal chair or stool is better really as you need to be able to shift your body weight as you use more of the keyboard. The only other thing I've seen that might substitute for a piano stool is a dressing table stool.
For me looks are of little importance either for my piano or my piano stool.... I need them to do the job they are intended to do, not to look at.
