Hi! Can anyone tell me where I can purchase some cello posters? What I would really like is a tutor-style poster naming all the cello parts and (dare I dream?!) maybe a poster of Paul Tortelier, Mislav Rostropovich, etc etc. The room in the school that I teach cello in is very bare and not very inspiring!

I sometimes get free posters of violins and cellos with my 'Strad' magazine but I give them away so sorry I don't have a cello one at the moment.

There is a company that sells the posters directly but they're usually photos of a particular instrument although they have structural information on the back (measurements for luthier to copy).

Anyway, here's the link http://www.orpheusmusicshop.com/category-9.html

Good luck biggrin.gif

Yes, those Strad posters are excellent.

Also, you can download lots of postcard size images (including Slava, Du Pre, Bylsma,& others) here at the ICS photo archive:

I suppose you could mount and frame some individually, or make a poster sized collage of several of them.

The other idea might be to search out old publicity images / programmes (Ebay?) and frame them . They would be larger, and when mounted and framed even larger still.

Of course if the music swap shop idea ever gets off the ground you might find other teachers willing to swap similar materials................ smile.gif

* EDIT*
That link doesn't take you straight to the page. From that Home page you need to click on 'Library' in the left hand menu. A page should come up with a pic of lots of books as a heading. Click on the book which says 'photos ' and it should take you the right page. Those images can be enlarged.

I have a beautiful cello poster which Lottie sent me a while ago. We're moving house this weekend and I suspect I'm going to run out of space - I wouldn't mind sending it to you, Charlie, if that would be of use?

(It's not that I'm not really grateful or anything Lottie, but it would be a shame for it not to be put to use.)

Wow, thank you all for your help. I've sent you a pm Miss Ross with my address etc. Iona, thanks for your suggestions too. I'm having a good old look through the photos and yes, I think I'll mount a few of them into a display.

Thanks again!

Make friends with your local classical CD shop. (OK - I realise not every town has one these days but you might be lucky). Ask them if you can take away the publicity photos of cellists after their latest album has been released. I got a nice Natalie Clein poster that way, which I donated to the cello teacher next door to me. Also picked up a bundle of violinist posters for my own teaching room. Or email the record companies explaining that you'd love posters of their wonderful, famous cellist clients so that you can enthuse your pupils into buying all their CDs. I got another good stash of violinist posters that way. All for free as well!

Ha! I like it KTViola. Very resourceful!! Yes, I'll give it a go. What a wonderful idea!
