Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I should just continue with this one.
I just ordered my new piano yesterday!
W.Hoffmann 120 upright it is... yes, hmm..I have been trying out various pianos since June, but couldn't make up my mind.
Yamaha, Kawai, Petrof, Cramer, Gebr Perzina... I have tried them all. All are great pianos, but somehow I didn't feel a 100% urge to buy them...
I was closest to buying the W. Hoffmann piano in July, but the price was SGD 10k, which really was a deterrent. I was thinking to myself: Surely an amateur like me won't need such an expensive piano? Even my teacher achieved a diploma on a pianon that is half the price of what I ordered. Maybe I should have settle for a cheaper piano.
But I simply couldn't get over the fact that Yamaha wouldn't give me an adjustable bench, and I never had the "this is it" feeling when I played all the other brands.
Yesterday, I decided to try out the W. Hoffmann piano again. This time round, I played a few classical pieces, and only felt "so-so". Finally I played a pop song, and that did it for me, again. I placed an order.
There were some technical problems with my deposit, but the salesperson settled it amiably. Also, this time round, the disposal of my old acoustic piano would not cost me anything, and the movers will move my digital piano from my bedroom to the living room before populating my bedroom with the new piano, without additional cost. Phew. And I get an adjustable bench!!
I am still a little embarrassed to tell my friends that I spent such a huge amount on a piano when I still play so poorly. My teacher will probably raise an eyebrow when she hears about it. Almost couldn't sleep last night, wondering whether I made the right decision. But it has become a fact now, and I do look forward to the arrival of the piano in two weeks' time

So you all are the next people to hear about my purchase after my family.
Coming Tuesday, my old acoustic will be assessed for its market value. I doubt it will have any price... Though I hardly play it anymore, I still feel a little sad that it will be leaving my house for the dumping ground. It's like an old friend who has been standing in the corner for 20 years...
