Does anyone know of a programme that can write text as well as notation? I'm trying to put together some teaching handouts and have been trying to use Finale Notepad but the text facility is too limited,

Sibelius can produce worksheets in various formats, and also you can export music examples into a word processing program such as Word if you need to do loads of text and not so much music.

Finale has facilities for text in three different modes: expressions, lyrics and self-contained. Expressions are attached either to notes or to bars; lyrics underlie the stave with each word relating to a note or a slurred phrase, with facilities for moving words horizontally and lines vertically; self-contained text blocks are attached to pages, may be repeated on a range of all, odd or even pages and can include a symbol for the page number. Expressions and self-contained blocks can include multiple fonts and new lines. There are separate flexible facilities for naming staves and groups thereof, and for bar numbering .

Thanks for the replies. I'll have a look at both and see what might suit.

If you only want to print teaching handouts and the like then get a program like Finale PrintMusic. It's MUCH cheaper than the full versions of Siblius and Finale and has all the things you need. It's more than capable of creating worksheets (I think it's even got some ready-made ones and templates to help you).
