hi i was wondering if anyone could help in explaining what this is ??

It works in a similar way to a passing note, but comes between two notes of the same pitch. A lower auxiliary is, as the name suggests, a second lower than the two notes either side of it. So, for example, in the group D-C-D, the C is the lower auxiliary. The outside notes of the group will be consonant with the harmony below, the lower auxiliary dissonant.
