hi all
A doddle to play obviously, but still confusing a little to understand theoretically speaking.
I can really only understand them by reading different types of music instead of the theory books and come to this conclusion:
In 4/4 ( or C ) time, 16 demis in one bar in groups of 4.Therefore 1 crotchet beat = 4 demis. Is this correct ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, we come to the theory books and this is where im getting confused with the counting etc.
a quaver lasts as long as........?
a dotted minim lasts as long as.....?
a semi quaver...etc etc
Im also getting a bit stuck when it comes to putting in bar lines but i think that just comes with practice.
I should know it all ofcourse but a lot of you know that ive only just started music again ( over the last couple of years) after years of not playing. party1.gif ( not party hat but dunces hat !!)

Thanks

One crotchet is 4 semiquavers.

Try making a chart.
Put a semibreve in the centre at the top.
Next line divides that into 2 minims.
Then 4 crotchets.

Keep on until you get down to the smallest time value you want.
If you need you could always start with a Breve instead.

Then you can use the chart to answer the questions.

when trying to sort out where barlines go group the notes into the value of one beat according to the time signature.
